OA Un-Banner Challenge

Hey everyone!  Yesterday on the October Afternoon blog, Vivian Masket posted a fun "Un-Banner" challenge.  The challenge is to use a banner, but in an unexpected way.  I played along with her challenge, and this is what I came up with:

It is a small gift bag, perfect for child (or even an adult ;) ).  I used the banner pieces from the Sidewalks Chip 'n Stick set as teeth for a fun, monster kind-of face.

He's a funny looking little guy, isn't he?!

I finished it off with products from the Sidewalks and Boarding Pass collections.

You can head on over to the blog here to see what Vivian came up with for the challenge.  And if you decide to take on the challenge yourself, be sure to link you project up in the October Afternoon Flickr Gallery so we can all see what you came up with.

That's it for me today.  I hope you have a great day, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Pink Paislee Hot Hues Color Challenge

Hey everyone!  Thought I would stop by to share a layout I made for the Pink Paislee blog.  I got to work with this month's Hot Hues Color Challenge.  Here it is:

Aren't the colors wonderful?!  They  work perfectly with the Vintage Vogue collection, which I used on my layout.

I was very inspired by the layout of the challenge photo and decided to base my layout around that design.

In place of the Hot Hues photos, I put some Ephemera and Chipboard Pops along with my photo.

Then new Spool Buttons reminded my of the color swatch down the side of the Hot Hues photo, and that is how I used them.

And I finished off the layout with the Wood Shop Wood Chip alphas for my title.

If you get a chance to play along with this month's Hot Hues Challenge, don't forget to post it in the Live Pink Gallery so we can all see your creations.

Hope you have a wonderful day.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

OA Fabric!?!

Hey everyone!  Today on the October Afternoon blog, they are showcasing fabric... yes, that's right... you can now get OA product in fabric form.  Woohoo!!!  The first release is Farm Fresh.

It is available in Cotton and Flannel.  OA will not be selling it themselves, but it can be purchased at FatQuarterShop

The OA designers were all sent some samples to play with, and I decided to try my hand at a little plushie owl.

I went to Pinterest to look around for some inspiration.  (I found tons!)  I grabbed bits and pieces of elements I liked from multiple little owls, added a few of my own, and pieced it together.  I am somewhat of a novice sewing on fabric, so I just sort of winged it.  No real pattern to follow.  And since this is my first time to really making anything like this, there are lots of little mistakes.  (I definitely need to work on my finishing skills.)  Luckily, this type of project lends itself well to imperfections. ;)

Make sure you stop by the OA blog here to see the wonderful projects the rest of the design team came up with.  There are some really great ideas!  Oh... and don't forget to leave a comment over on the OA blog for a chance to win a Fat Quarter of all of the Farm Fresh patterns.  The winner will be announced Monday October 3rd.

That is it for me today.  Hope you all have good one.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Is it too early for Christmas???

Hey everyone!  Once a month, Cricut Blog spotlights the new Cricut cartridges being released in a blog post called Hello Thursday!.  This month they have two new releases, Scandinavian Christmas Cards and Imagine Hey Diddle Diddle.  I got to work with the Christmas cartridge, and I wanted to share one of the cards I made with it.

Here it is:

As soon as I saw this tree on the cartridge, I knew I wanted to use it on a card.  I cut it out, pieced it together, and decided to add a little stitching to enhance the die-cut.

There are lots of other fun shapes to choose from on this cartridge.  It is definitely worth checking out it you love Christmas, and you love to work with your Cricut machine.

You can see the more Scandinavian Christmas Card projects and Imagine Hey Diddle Diddle projects here.

Well, that's it for me today.  Hope you are all having a great week so far.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

OA Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone!  This week was it was my turn to come up with a sketch for the October Afternoon Blog sketch challenge, and here it is:

I decided to go with a 12 x12” format this time.  I settled on a grid pattern which would be great to use for multiple photos, a perfect place to show off lots of little embellishments, or a mixture of both.  There is also a spot in the bottom right corner for a title and journaling.

Here is my take on the sketch:

I tend to make my sketches before I make my layouts, so my layouts never seem to identically mirror the sketch.  But that is the beauty of sketches... they really are meant to give you a place to start and let your creativity kick in.

I decided to go with larger photos, so the three colums turned into two to fit the space.  The size of the photos also caused the columns to be offset, and it gives the feeling of rows instead of a grid.  I added a little separation between them with some twine.

I replaced the butterfly embellishments in the sketch with some of the new Little Flyers, and I moved the placement to the right to work with my title.

I also added a little strip of paper under my journaling to define the space and added a few little hearts in place of the butterfly in the sketch for a little punch of color.

Wilna Furstenberg played along with the sketch, and you can see her take on the sketch here.

That's it for me today.  Hope you all have a great weekend.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Jumbo Buttons

Hey everyone!  Today is my day on the Pink Paislee blog, and I got to showcase the new Jumbo Buttons from the Vintage Vogue collection.

Here is the layout I created:

I used some of the buttons for the centers of the flowers I made (using my Cricut Expression and Sweet Treats cartridge).  I also added a few around the flowers.

I attached the backless ones with some liquid adhesive (ZipDry) and the other I stitched onto the layout.

I finished the layout off with some pieces from the Ephemera pack, Brads, Spool Buttons, and Wood Shop Sawdust alphas.  You can see a complete list of Pink Paislee products used here.

Well, that is it for me today. Hope you enjoyed today's project.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
